United Kingdom passport photo requirements

Photo size: 45mm X 35mm

Your photo should be:

• In colour

• Printed on high-quality plain white photo paper

• Clear and in focus

• Without any tears or creases

• Clean on both sides (no marks)

• Taken recently within the last month

• Not digitally changed

• Exactly alike

On the photo you should be alone without other people or objects.

Your photo must include your full head and shoulders.

The image of your face  - from the top of your head to the bottom of your chin - must be between 29mm and 34mm high.

Make sure that you:

• Look straight to the camera

• Have a neutral face expression and be sure your mouth is closed

• Do not cover your face

• Have a contrast background (plain cream or light grey)

• Do not cover your head (except of religious or medical reasons)

• Your eyes are open.

• Are visible and not covered by sunglasses, glasses frames, tinted glasses, or hair.

• If you wear normal glasses that you do not have reflection or glare on them.

• Don’t have the ‘red eye’ effect

• Do not have shadows in the picture
