Indonesia Bridging Visa Policy
Indonesia's immigration authorities have announced a new visa called the Transitional Indonesia Stay Permit, or Bridging Visa. The Bridging Visa is designed for those who are applying for a new residence permit or changing their visa status and cannot extend their current permits.
The Bridging Visa allows the holder to stay in Indonesia for up to 60 days after their current visa expires.
Please be advised that there are some Bridging Visa restrictions: The visa cannot be extended, and it is only valid for 60 days. If the holder leaves the country during this period, the visa will become invalid.
Indonesia Bridging Visa Conditions
The Bridging Visa is available to foreign nationals who have:
- Visit visas obtained through the visa.imigrasi.go.id portal
- Expired limited-stay permits
- Expired permanent stay permits
The visa must be obtained while in Indonesia and is invalidated if the person leaves the country.
Applicants need to apply for the Bridging Visa at least three days before their current residence permit expires. This policy allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia legally while their residence permits are being processed. However, they are not allowed to work while on this visa.

While waiting for your new residence permits, you can use this bridging visa on travel only within Indonesia. Here are the main reasons for travel for bridging visa holders:
- Legal stay. The Bridging Visa allows foreigners to stay legally in Indonesia while transitioning from an expiring visa or permit to a new one, such as a Limited Stay Permit (KITAS) or Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP), without needing to leave the country.
- Processing new permits. Visa holders can travel to immigration offices or other relevant locations to complete the necessary paperwork for their new residence permits.
- Business activities. Although visa holders cannot work while on the Bridging Visa, they may travel within Indonesia for business-related purposes like attending meetings or networking events, as long as they comply with visa regulations.
- Exploring Indonesia. While on the Bridging Visa, holders can explore different regions of Indonesia, enjoying the country’s diverse culture and landscapes without worrying about visa issues.
- Personal reasons. Visa holders can also travel for personal reasons, such as visiting friends or family within the country, as the Bridging Visa allows for unrestricted domestic travel.
