Romania Visa Policy Updates-2024
Romania has joined the Schengen zone for air and sea borders starting March 31, 2024. This means air and sea travelers between Romania and other Schengen countries will no longer go through border checks. However, land border checks will still be in place until the European Council makes a final decision.
So, do you need a visa for Romania? — If you have a Schengen visa with at least two entries, or if you have a national visa or residence permit issued by a Schengen State, you won't need a separate Romanian visa, as Romania visa is Schengen. You can enter, transit, or stay in Romania for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a Romanian visa.
Romania Visa Categories
Romania offers different types of visas:
- Uniform Schengen Visa (Type C). This visa allows entry and free movement in all countries that fully implement Schengen rules for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It's perfect for tourism, business trips, visiting family and friends, short courses, and similar activities.
- Visa with Limited Territorial Validity (Type C). This visa lets you travel only within the issuing country or, in some cases, a few selected Schengen countries.
- Airport Transit Visa (Type A). This visa lets you stay in the international transit area of an airport in a Schengen country without entering the country.
- Long-Stay Visa (Type D). This visa allows you to enter and stay for up to 90 days during a 6-month period, starting from the date of your first entry. It covers activities such as long-term work, participation in long-term study programs, reuniting with family members, and other long-term stays.
