Singapore Passport Renewal

The passport is one of the most important documents a citizen can have: it confirms identity and citizenship and is needed for international travel. If your Singapore passport has expired or will expire within nine months, you can apply for a new one online through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). You can also apply if it has run out of pages or is lost or damaged. This guide explains the application routes, photo requirements, fees, waiting times and collection.

How to apply for Singapore passport renewal online?

To renew your Singapore passport online, open the ICA passport application page and log in to its e-Service with Singpass. Complete your application using:

• Your Identity Card, Birth Certificate or Citizenship Certificate number, as applicable;
• your current passport details, including its expiry date, if you are renewing it;
• a new colour passport photo taken within the last three months; and
• an accepted payment method: Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card, American Express credit card, internet direct debit from a participating Singapore bank, or PayNow.

How to apply for Singapore passport renewal in person?

ICA also accepts passport applications over the counter at the ICA Services Centre. The fee is S$80. Prepare a new passport photo taken within the last three months and your identity details before applying.

Is it possible to renew a Singapore passport overseas?

Yes, you can obtain a new Singapore passport while living abroad. Apply online through ICA's e-Service with Singpass, or submit the Singapore Passport Application Form (overseas) in person at a Singapore Overseas Mission.

If you use the form, ask the mission whether an appointment is required and how to pay the equivalent fee in local currency. Once approved, the passport is sent to your selected mission for collection. ICA requires you to visit the mission in person at least once, either when applying or when collecting the passport.

Documents required for Singapore passport renewal

For a standard online renewal, prepare the following information and items before you begin:

• Your Identity Card, Birth Certificate or Citizenship Certificate number, as applicable;
• the expiry date and other details of your current passport;
• a digital colour passport photo taken within the last three months; and
• an accepted online payment method.

ICA lists the photo as the document required for the standard online application. If you apply at an overseas mission or are changing your name, additional documents may be needed under that application route. If your passport is lost or damaged, report it to ICA before applying for a replacement.

Singapore passport photo specifications

Check your passport photo against these ICA photo requirements:

• The photo must be in colour and taken within the last three months.
• For an online application, ICA recommends 400 × 514 pixels. The file must be no larger than 8 MB and may be JPG, JPEG, HEIC, HEIF or PNG.
• For a hardcopy application at a Singapore Overseas Mission, the print must measure 35 × 45 mm, have no border, and be on matte or semi-matte paper.
• The background must be plain white, or light grey if your hair is white. Lighting and contrast must be even, with no distracting objects or shadows.
• Face the camera with your head straight, eyes open and mouth closed. Both sides of your face and the top of your shoulders must be visible. For a printed photo, the face should measure 25–35 mm from chin to crown.
• Glasses must not cover your eyes or cause reflections. Tinted glasses and sunglasses are not allowed.
• Head coverings habitually worn for religious or racial custom are allowed if they do not obscure facial features and are not white.

If you use a phone, ask someone else to take the picture: ICA advises against selfies because they can delay an application. A photo that fails ICA's checks may need to be replaced, adding to the waiting time.

Singapore passport renewal costs

An online passport application costs S$70. An application submitted at an ICA Services Centre counter or at a Singapore Overseas Mission costs S$80. If the passport is lost or damaged, ICA charges an additional, non-refundable S$50 for the first replacement or S$100 for a subsequent replacement. The replacement fee is separate from the passport application fee.

Singapore passports issued to citizens aged 16 or older are valid for 10 years. Passports for children under 16 are valid for five years. For a five-year passport, up to nine months of unused validity from the previous passport may be carried over.

Singapore passport renewal waiting times

ICA says applications made in Singapore usually take one to two weeks after it receives a complete application. Processing may take up to four weeks if the photo is unsuitable or the application involves a change to the applicant's principal name or surname.

For overseas applications, ICA's passport webpage estimates four to six weeks after receipt, while its September 2026 overseas application form gives five to eight weeks. These are different published estimates, so allow extra time for travel plans and check with your selected mission if you need a more specific expectation. Photo or document problems can add further time.

Once the application is approved, arrange collection within one month. In Singapore, you may be offered collection at a designated post office or at the ICA Services Centre. Bring your current passport, if any, and your digital or physical identity card. Overseas collection is coordinated by the selected mission.
