Complete the online DS-160 nonimmigrant visa application through the Consular Electronic Application Center at ceac.state.gov.

After payment, wait for the system to activate your receipt. Processing time depends on the payment method. Keep your payment reference number because you need it to schedule the appointment and may need it later during the application process. Once your payment is active, sign in to your profile and select Schedule Your Appointment.

The MRV fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another applicant. It remains valid for 365 days from the payment date. If you do not use the fee within this period, you must pay it again.

Step-by-step: how to book a U.S. visa interview in Thailand

Once you have submitted the DS-160 and paid the MRV fee, you can arrange your interview through the official U.S. visa appointment system. Follow the steps below to complete the booking:

  1. Sign in or create an account. Go to the official U.S. visa appointment website for Thailand. If you are a new user, select Nonimmigrant Visa and then choose Sign Up Now or New User to create your profile.
  2. Select the applicant.
  3. Choose your visa category.
  4. Select the interview location. Choose either the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok or the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai.
  5. Confirm your DS-160 and passport details. Enter the 10-digit barcode number shown on your DS-160 confirmation page, along with your passport information. The visa application fee generally remains valid for 1 year from the payment date. You can use it to schedule or reschedule an appointment during this validity period. Once the fee expires, you must pay it again.

Rescheduling limits

The appointment system limits how many times you can change an appointment. The exact limit may depend on the circumstances and current local rules. After reaching the permitted number of changes, you may need to pay a new visa fee before booking another appointment.

Therefore, expats can book a U.S. visa interview in Thailand only if they are legal residents of Thailand: for example, if they are holding a valid long-term visa, work permit, residence permit, or other evidence of lawful residence.

How long after paying the visa fee can I schedule my appointment?

The waiting time depends on how you pay. After a cash payment at Krungsri Bank, you can generally schedule from 12:00 PM on the next business day. For electronic fund transfers (EFT), allow 2 business days; appointments are typically available from 2:00 PM.

Do children need to attend the interview?
